The Intrinsic Beauty of Granite Tile Countertops and Natural Materials

Defined Tag:

Granite tile countertops have become more and more popular recently due to their relatively cheaper cost as new technology has made their quarrying easier and production more efficient. People are becoming more conscious of the materials in their homes and the fact that granite stone is a natural material is a great part of its appeal. To have a surface created from stone which was itself created by natural processes under the earth, over many thousands of years, is something which appeals to many and the uniqueness of each tile or slab adds to this appeal. Each stone tile or slab is unique and different from every other. Even two tiles taken from the same original slab will be slightly different. The patterns and colors created by minerals during the stones evolution will be subtly but essentially different in each and every tile.

For some it is an added benefit: to have their kitchen or bathroom created from natural materials in a time when the artificial seems to predominate. Man made materials which became so popular a few decades ago because of their cheap cost and newness are slowly falling out of favour as people begin to see the aesthetic value in natural materials and their inherent uniqueness. Many architects now build, exclusively, with such natural materials and with it evoke an aesthetic of nature and of our place in it, or its place within us. To be going about your ordinary daily tasks, such as cooking or brushing your teeth, and to glance at the beauty of a natural granite tile is to remember the beauty of nature, and of the natural.

Granite tiles are nothing more than stone polished and cut to shape; their beauty comes from natural processes which have been going on for millions of years. Our culture and society can seem artificial to many and as we further control our environment and stamp our presence upon the decreasing natural areas it is a good thing to surround your self with products of nature and remember our real place as a part of it and not as something separate. The age of stone and the haunting years which formed it is something which might give us each a perspective upon our lives and real effect upon this planet. Granite tile countertops are more than functional polished surfaces they are a mirror of nature we might look into and reflect.
